As part of a project funded by the Investment Bank of Saxony-Anhalt and the European Regional Development Fund, B+B Engineering GmbH is starting a new research and development project together with its cooperation partner AVA - Anhaltinische Verfahrens- und Anlagentechnik GmbH from Magdeburg.
The project is designed as a short-term R&D project. It is supported by funding from the REACT-EU program as part of the Union's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and will run until December 2022.
The scientific and technical work objectives seek to develop and investigate a novel process approach to break down the oily cells in dehulled canola seed. The innovative approach as a contribution to the canola biorefinery is to use the canola seeds, which have been separated from the hulls to the greatest possible extent, for the production of higher-value raw and valuable materials and thus to extract further components such as proteins, glucosinolates, sinapine and other minor components from the canola in addition to the classic oil production.
Within the scope of a cooperation between the two companies since 2010, the aim is to build a plant for the continuous dehulling of rapeseed and a subsequent ethanolic extraction. B+B Engineering is contributing its expertise in oleochemical processes and extraction plants, while AVA is contributing its process engineering know-how in terms of plant construction and solids process technology.
